I first saw Nate King's Cavalier design at the American Carvers Contest in Kansas City this year. That pipe was included in the winners set, this pipe is the same design with a different finish and a different colored ebonite. The effect is the same. Unconventional shaping incorporated into a classic idea. The cap at the front of the bowl is indeed functional and does remove revealing a draft to the chamber, which has two. One for the draw leading to the bit, and the one leading to the reservoir's cap. The deep blast and red orange tones of the finish contrast well with the antique sea green of the stem. This pipe even stands up - balancing easily on the flat surface of the cap.
